I had a bit of a busy week this week as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Day at school, traveled to San Diego, celebrated Mother's Day plus my birthday so I am keeping it short and sweet this week! There are some fun events this week and I am excited to wrap up our two final May contests and announce the winners!

Join Mathnasium's Summer Workouts


Mathnasium “Summer Workouts” 

At Mathnasium, summer programs are all about preventing summer learning loss and helping students prepare for what lies ahead. For some students, that means a solid review of previous material. Others benefit from previewing upcoming concepts. Most students will get some of both. Summer programs are available to all currently enrolled Mathnasium members. 

Summer-only Mathnasium memberships are also available.  While membership is offered on a monthly basis year around, classes are offered by the session only in summer, with a minimum enrollment of 12 sessions. Two or more 60–90 minutes sessions per week are ideal.  Private lessons are available by appointment.

Master Series
Here is the opportunity for your child to master lifetime math concepts and skills. Enroll in our year-round program or just for summer.
   Master – Times Tables (3rd grade and up)
   Master – Percent Basic (5th grade/up)
   Percent Advanced (7th grade/up)
   Master – Decimal Concepts and Skills (4th grade and up)

For elementary, middle and high school “mathletes”. Get ready for fall with introductions to new topics or reviews of previous ones. SAT I, ACT and mid-level ISEE Math Prep are also available.

Several fun math and logic games are offered weekly during the summer, free of charge, to currently enrolled Mathnasium members. These are in addition to the weekly raffle for the Problem of the Week and two five-week long summer activities.

Monday, May 21 - New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Groups

Bring your baby to these special groups to share and learn in a friendly supportive atmosphere. Discussions are facilitated by lactation consultants and broach many topics including postpartum adjustment, feeding, burping, sleeping, gas and colic, normal newborn behavior, soothing fussy babies and breastfeeding. Classes are organized by the age of your baby: 0-4 and 4-8 months. Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend a complimentary New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group of the 0-4 month group prior to giving birth. Additionally, there is no charge for the first 0-4 month New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group you attend with your baby.

The Sagebrush Cantina announces it will be hosting Tuesday night’s Kid’s Club, a local family community event offering free entertainment and activities geared toward families with kids ages 10 and under. The weekly Tuesday family night event offers activities such as face painting, gymnastics and disco dancing with a variety of featured entertainment which will include magic, reptiles, puppets, jugglers and bubble shows. During Kid’s Club the cantina offers families a Kids Eat Free special with one free child’s meal with every adult entrée ordered or a $3 kid’s special meal with drink. Friday, June 1 - Sign Me Up Baby! My Smart Hands™ Crash Course in Baby Sign

This introductory course teaches parents the most essential signs to use with the family's daily routines. We will learn how to promote language development using sign language, as well as easy techniques for successfully integrating signs into everyday life. This workshop is an introduction to the benefits of using American Sign Language (ASL) with your child. Children are not only auditory learners; they also learn visually and kinesthetically. Using sign language with your child encompasses all learning styles. Saturday, June 2 - Kids Workshops at the Home Depot

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit. The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

Brandon's Buddies is a FREE KIDS CLUB that meets every month at Brandon's Village-the first fully-accessible playground in the area. The day may include Integrated Play, Face Painting, Arts & Crafts, Entertainment and Treats. All children with and without disabilities and their families who want to spend a great day playing and making friends are invited to participate! Brandon's Buddies gives children with disabilities the opportunity to play with their typically-able peers, and gives their parents a chance to share experiences and advice with other parents/caregivers. It gives children without disabilities the chance to get to know their peers and gain awareness and compassion.
